About Bhandhini Sarees
Bandhani — also called Bandhini or Bandhej — is the tie-dye craft of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Tiny points of fabric are tied by hand with thread before dyeing, and when the knots are opened, they leave behind dot patterns that no machine can copy exactly. That is why every Bandhani saree is a little different from the next.
Our Bandhani sarees are made on soft, light modal and Modal Gajji Silk, in styles ranging from fine Single Dani dots and circular Chakkar patterns to Shibori-style resist dyeing, Ajrak pallus, Mushroo patch borders, mirror work and the traditional Gujarati Gharchola grid. Bright and joyful yet easy to drape, they are made for Navratri, Diwali, weddings, haldi and mehendi functions and every festive gathering in between.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Bandhani saree?
A saree decorated with Bandhani tie-dye, where small points of fabric are tied by hand before dyeing to create dot patterns. The craft comes from Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Are Bandhani, Bandhini and Bandhej the same?
Yes. They are different spellings and regional names for the same tie-dye craft. The word comes from the Sanskrit for "to tie".
What is the difference between Single Dani, Chakkar and Shibori?
Single Dani has very fine, individually tied dots. Chakkar arranges the dots in circles to form swirl-like motifs. Shibori is a Japanese-origin resist technique where the fabric is folded, twisted or bound, giving softer, flowing patterns.
What fabric are these Bandhani sarees?
Most are on modal — soft, light and breathable — and the Gharchola sarees are on Modal Gajji Silk. They are not pure silk. Each product page lists the exact fabric.
Why does my Bandhani saree have small variations?
The dots are tied and dyed by hand, so slight differences in dot size, spacing and colour are natural. They are a mark of the craft, not a defect.
When should I wear a Bandhani saree?
Bandhani is a festive craft, traditionally worn for Navratri, weddings, haldi and mehendi, Teej and Diwali. Softer colours and Bandhani-pallu designs also work for family functions and day events.
How do I care for a Bandhani saree?
Dry clean recommended, especially for the first wash. Do not wring or bleach, dry in shade, and avoid ironing directly on mirror work or tissue pallus.
Is shipping free?
Yes, Daaraa Silks offers free shipping across India.
